Research Resources at Wharton
Wharton and Penn provide a wide range of resources to support faculty and student research. These include specialized support for research computing, assistance with data acquisition and use agreements, and access to extensive pre-purchased datasets through WRDS, iWRDS, and library partnerships. Researchers can also take advantage of facilities like the Wharton Behavioral Lab, which offers participant recruitment and experimental support. In addition, Penn’s Office of Research Services and other University partners provide guidance on proposals, compliance, and sponsored projects.
New Research Resources
Pivot-RP
Pivot-RP is a database that helps researchers find funding opportunities and collaborators. It covers many disciplines, including arts, education, health, humanities, science, commerce, and industry. Pivot automatically generates user profiles from publicly available information, or users can create or refine their own profiles. It then provides customized funding opportunities based on these profiles.

Submission & Tracking
Penn Research Submission & Tracking
Penn’s Electronic Research Administration system, or PennERA, is the suite of web-based applications that streamline processes and provide more efficient tools for handling pre- and post-award administrative tasks related to the sponsored projects of Penn’s academic research community. PennERA is a full life-cycle system for research project development, support, and management.
Research Inventory System (RIS)
Web-based application for requesting, routing, and issuing various research related agreements.
While PennERA is the system of record for projects involving sponsored research at the University, the Research Inventory System (RIS) is the system for agreements that don’t typically involve funding (i.e., Material Transfer Agreements and Collaboration Agreements) or when the funding is leaving the University (i.e. subawards).
Effort Reporting System
Web-based system to track reporting data for required effort reporting processes.
IRB Submissions
The Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) are federally regulated entities within the Penn HRPP with the mandate to review biomedical and social behavioral research studies that take place within or under the authority of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine.

Data Resources
Looking to purchase a new dataset for analysis? Need help with a Data Use Agreement?
All new data purchases must be processed through the Wharton Data Intake form. Wharton researchers have access to hundreds of pre-purchased data through WRDS, iWRDS, the Lippincott Library and through a partnership with the Philadelphia Federal Statistical Data Center.
Wharton Computing’s Research IT can advise on DUA requirements, the data intake form and additional data purchase needs.
